Was Raquel Pennington's Corner Right in Sending Her Out to Round 5?
Raquel Pennington's coaches didn't stop the fight after she said "I'm done,' in between rounds 4 and 5 of her title fight with Amanda Nunes at UFC 224, in a move that caused a lot of controversy amongst fans, coaches, fighters, and media alike.
Many have defended their actions, pointing to arguments of corner/fighter relationship being something we are not privy to. Pennington's fiance and fellow UFC fighter Tecia Torres even came out and said that she agreed with their coaches decision, as Raquel would have "always regretted," having quit on herself.
But did they do her wrong? And how can we judge such situations with moral conviction if MMA has no official rules or regulations concerning fighter retirement? These questions and more will be answered in the discussion below.
