Why Holly Holm VS Megan Anderson is the Fight the UFC Needs

The UFC just booked the most logical fight in the history of the company!  In an attempt to introduce Megan Anderson to new audience, the Aussie Invicta FC vet will be facing Holly Holm in a featherweight fight at UFC 225 in Chicago.

If everything goes according to plan for y Anderson, a victory will probably lead to a title fight against Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg. With rising stars debuting left and right, Megan Anderson is the latest to attempt to make a splash onto the scene in the featherweight division. For the UFC, two legit megastars fighting for contention is truly, as WWE’s Triple H would say, best for business.

Megan Anderson (8-2)is currently on a four fight win streak, with, her last ending in a round two TKO against Charmaine Tweet at Invicta 21.  In fact, she won the Invicta FC Featherweight Title as a result of that victory, which she held onto for 88 days before signing with the UFC.

After she soundly defeated Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title, Holly Holm (11-4)  has had a rocky road since that performance in November 2015. She lost her title in her first defense against Miesha Tate at UFC 196, followed by a UD loss to Valentina Shevchenko in July 2016. After these losses at bantamweight, she moved up to 145 lbs. to face Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208 for the women’s featherweight title, which resulted in a controversial loss by decision. However, Holly was able to bounce back by defeating Bethe Correia at UFC Fight Night 111 with a vicious head kick fit for a highlight reel.

Coming off of this win, she ended up going toe-to-toe with Cyborg at UFC 219 (she even bloodied her nose!), losing via unanimous decision. Although she has a 1-4 record since taking the belt from Rousey, Holly Holm is still a force to be reckoned with.

Perhaps an automatic fight against Cyborg was premature. A bout against a veteran in Holm (33-2-3 boxing, 11-4 MMA) is the best matchup for Megan. After all, who better to face Anderson than a person who is the closest equivalent to Cyborg?

The UFC needs this fight in order to bring some more momentum into the women’s featherweight division. It is still in development, and these two are the best that can be offered in today’s landscape of MMA. If we have a striking battle fight that can rival Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz from UFC 205, the company will have struck gold. After all of the chaos that has bombarded the company recently, a sound match up like this can set a balance in the force the company badly needs.

Get ready folks!  The Windy City is about to get what could be the fight of a lifetime. Sit back, relax and enjoy the chaos unfold. You just know Cyborg will.
